Position Description:   Work Schedule: Generally, 40 or more hours per week – typically 7:00 am-3:30 pm Monday-Friday, with some evenings, weekends, and holiday events as needed. On-call scheduling will occur as required.

NATURE OF WORK
As a member of the Public Works - Fleet Division, individuals in the Fleet Mechanic III position performs a variety of duties including by not limited to complex and moderately complex journey-level mechanical duties for the prevention and maintenance on Town of Windsor Fleet vehicles and equipment. The individual works in partnership with other employees, divisions/departments, external entities, and the public in delivering effective and exceptional services.

The Fleet Mechanic III is required to perform work in a manner consistent with and exemplary of the town’s PRIDE philosophies and the town’s Equal Opportunity Employment policy.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
The Fleet Mechanic III is assigned specific tasks, job duties, scope, authority, responsibility, roles and requirements as determined by the Town, department, division, and pursuant to laws, regulation and practices. Incumbents in this position must be able to successfully perform, be responsible for, and/or assist in the fulfillment of many job functions and duties, with or without reasonable accommodation.
The following duties and responsibilities are illustrative of the primary functions of this position and are not intended to be all inclusive:
1. Performs maintenance and journey level mechanical repairs on all town Fleet units consisting of light duty trucks and automobiles, heavy duty trucks and equipment, turf and agricultural equipment, and small engine equipment in a timely manner. These include but are not limited to dump trucks, tractors, backhoes, street sweepers, sewer equipment, pickups, trailers, forklift, passenger vehicles, police vehicles, as well as electric vehicles. Repairs may be performed in the shop environment or in the field as necessary.
2. Performs Department of Transportation inspections on all commercial vehicles as defined by Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration standards.
3. Properly diagnoses, vehicle and equipment mechanical defects and determines proper solutions.
4. Repairs/rebuilds broken, worn, defective, inefficient, or unsafe vehicle and equipment components including braking, suspension, hydraulic, electrical, fuel, heating/cooling, and engine systems using approved ASE methods and practices.
5. Works with Fleet Manager to design OEM and aftermarket upfitting solutions to provide utilization options for customers.
6. Installs OEM and aftermarket accessories into new and existing vehicles as directed by Fleet Manager.
7. Use of fabrication skills as needed to achieve necessary repairs and modifications in areas of mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, metalwork, and other areas of vehicle and equipment operations.
8. Performs pre-and post-trip inspections, preventative maintenance checks and minor repairs on division’s equipment and other town vehicles to ensure they operate properly.
9. Safely drive and operate equipment Town of Windsor vehicles and equipment for preventative maintenance services.
10. Lubricate moving parts, refills fluids, and replaces belts, hoses, wiper blades, and tires.
11. Complies with the proper storage, use, and disposal of hazardous fuels, oils, lubricants, and cleaners.
12. Documents all services performed, as well as recording any parts and supplies ordered/used in accordance with established record-keeping procedures.
13. Performs snow operation tasks by shoveling, plowing, removing, and hauling snow and ice, along with applying deicers to streets and roads.
14. Clean equipment and Public Services Facility shops and yard areas as necessary.
15. Performs related duties as established by law/ordinance or reasonably directed by the Town.
16. Responds to emergencies or after-hours call-outs as needed.
17. Performs a variety of heavy laboring activities including the use of hand tools, light power equipment, and heavy construction and maintenance equipment.
18. Inputs daily work data into a computer and maintains records of work performed.
19. Perform and foster an environment of safe work practices and report safety issues promptly to the direct supervisor.
20. Performs other duties as assigned by direct supervisor.
21. Responds to customer inquiries and complaints, as directed.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND FORMAL TRAINING
• Minimum high school diploma or GED.
• Must be 21 years of age by the first date of employment.
• Two (2) years of experience as a Fleet Mechanic II for the Town of Windsor. (for internal applicants)
• 7 years of experience in an automotive or heavy-duty repair position.
• Preferred completion of an accredited automotive or diesel repair vocational school.
• Equivalent combination of education, training and experience that shows the candidate possesses the necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the essential functions of the job may be considered.

LICENSES OR CERTIFICATES
• Must possess and maintain a valid Colorado Class “B” Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with Tanker endorsement that meets the Town of Windsor’s standards or the ability to obtain within one (1) year of employment.
• Must possess and maintain a Department of Transportation (DOT) Medical Examiner’s Certificate.
• Must possess and maintain a master level ASE certification in either the automotive (A1-A8), or medium/heavy-duty truck (T2-T8) classifications. Certifications from manufacturers (International, Allison, CAT, John Deere, Bendix, Cummins, etc.) may be considered in lieu of ASE if deemed equivalent.
• ASE certifications T4 and T8 required within 1 yr. of employment.
• Motor Vehicle Air Conditioning certification as specified under section 609 of the Clean Air Act by an EPA-approved program within 6 months of employment.
• Ability to obtain Flagger certification within one (1) year of employment.
• Ability to obtain FEMA certifications: 100, 200, and 700 within one (1) year of employment.
• CPR/1st Aid certification or ability to attain within three (3) months of employment.
