| Position Description: | Examples of Essential Functions Perform skilled mechanic duties involving repairs to gasoline and diesel powered, heavy and light construction, and other power driven equipment. Inspect, diagnose, and locate mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic difficulties on a variety of City equipment and vehicles including, but not limited to, sewer and storm drain equipment, police vehicles, and parks and golf course maintenance equipment and vehicles. Diagnose, maintain, and repair electrical system components, ignition systems, computers, alternators, high voltage power generators, starters, and batteries. Diagnose, maintain, repair, and recondition hydraulic systems, front and rear drive axles, drive train components, belts, gears, and chain drives. Replace or repair faulty parts including wheel bearings, clutches, oil seals, shock absorbers, exhaust systems, steering mechanisms, and related parts and equipment. Tune-up engines by replacing ignition parts and reconditioning and adjusting carburetors, throttle body, port fuel injection systems, and propane fuel systems; repair and maintain emission control systems. Repair, adjust, and replace brake systems including wheel cylinders, master cylinders, disc pads, machine drums and rotors, and hydraulic and air brakes. Sharpen blades and reels on golf course mowing equipment; replace bed knives, bearings, and rollers as necessary; perform emergency repairs on the golf course as needed. Investigate, measure, and collect data on projects that require specialized tools to complete; fabricate, weld, and assemble parts and equipment for City automotive and heavy equipment; fabricate and modify tools as needed. Maintain an accurate inventory of parts for maintenance and emergency repairs; assist in the purchasing of equipment maintenance parts and materials; contact vendors and suppliers to obtain parts and materials as needed. Maintain and repair automated fuel system. Assist in the maintenance and cleanliness of the shop and surrounding work area; dispose of waste, oils and chemicals according to established safety procedures and guidelines. Maintain and update records of preventive maintenance on assigned vehicles; input information into the computer; prepare statistical maintenance reports as necessary. |
